weed around plants kill any slugs by placing slug pellets or similar
most slug pellets do have an animal repellent in them so no harm
should come to pets and wild life any problems caused to pets and
wildlife are normally due to the slugs being eaten,
SHRUBS, TREES AND HEDGES
Continue planting deciduous varieties
in good conditions, Check again for loosening of any plants by
frost, prune shrubs like spiraea, Tamarisk and some other late
flowering shrubs by cutting away last year’s growth, Prune summer
flowering clematis to ground or 12 inches above ground of within 2
buds on new growth, thin climbers by removing week shoots and pinch
out the tips of main shoots,
HEATHERS
Check for signs of lifting and firm
back into place any plants that has become loosened if soil is not
waterlogged new plants can be planted,
VEGETABLES
Sow early peas, broad beans and
onions/shallots if not already done, make sure they are covered with
soil to stop birds from digging them up, early carrots can be sown
under frames, continue picking winter vegetables and preparing the
ground for the coming season.
