Aquilegia
The Aquilegia is more at home in the Cottage garden and the herbaceous border. This dainty plant bearing grey-green leaves which has attractively coloured flowers early in the season.
The only downside to Aquilegia’s are that they do not have a long life, however they are very easily raised by sowing seeds in April outdoors, or divide clumps in Autumn or Spring, then water copiously during periods of drought and spray with a systematic insecticide if greenfly are a nuisance cut down the stems once flowering is over. Any well drained garden soil will be fine for this plant and it thrives on being in partial shade.
