Bedding

Alyssum

Alyssum is a bedding plant with compact cushions covered with tiny, honey-scented flowers which range in colour from white through to pinks and purples.

These plants can be used for many summer arrangements such as hanging baskets, containers and rockeries.

To encourage continuous flowering it is best to dead head with scissors and hot and dry weather will often cause the plants to stop flowering, they also require full sun.

Pest and Diseases

Aphids
Aphids can be found on any plant in your garden or house from the smallest shrub to the tallest oak tree.

The reason for this is the Aphids feed on the plant sap, this then weakens the plant which could then affect the plant’s rate of growth. They can also transmit a virus to your plants. Once the aphid colonies gather on the undersides of the leaves of your plants and suck the sap they excrete sugary honeydew on the leaves below, developing a shiny glaze. In damp conditions a sooty mould will grow on the glaze which will gradually deprive the leaf of light and the plant could die if not treated effectively.

Aphids can be treated in many different ways (all available in the shop)
